Import Guide

Import Vehicle History Into Wrenzo

Import is designed for records that already live in Excel, Google Sheets, shop exports, notes, or a personal maintenance log. Wrenzo turns each row into vehicle history, then previews the match before anything is saved. You can import from Garage or directly from this guide.

1

Download the template

Use the CSV template so your columns match what Wrenzo expects.

2

Add your records

Each row becomes one history entry, reminder, repair, note, diagnosis, or recall.

3

Preview before import

Wrenzo shows vehicle matches, duplicate VIN warnings, and rows needing attention.

How Vehicle Matching Works

If a row has a VIN that already exists in your Garage, Wrenzo adds those rows to the existing vehicle instead of creating a duplicate.

If a VIN is new, Wrenzo tries to decode it through NHTSA vPIC during preview. Decoded year, make, model, engine, and powertrain are used only when those fields are blank in your CSV. Trim stays manual so the imported vehicle keeps the cleaner trim name you choose.

If there is no VIN, the first row for that vehicle needs year, make, and model. Nickname, engine, mileage, and specs are optional.

Required Entry Fields

entry_type

Use diagnosis, maintenance, repair, modification, project, reminder, recall, or note.

date

The date for the history entry, usually YYYY-MM-DD from a spreadsheet.

title

A short label, such as Oil Change, Front Brakes, or Battery Test.

Vehicle Fields

vin

Optional, but recommended. Wrenzo uses it to match existing vehicles and auto-fill blank vehicle details when possible.

year, make, model

Required only when VIN is blank. These identify the vehicle when there is no VIN.

vehicle_nickname

Optional display name, such as Work Truck or Civic.

trim, engine, vehicle_mileage

Optional details that make the Garage record more useful.

tire_pressure, tire_size, oil_type, oil_capacity

Optional specs saved to the vehicle.

Vehicle History and Reminder Fields

status

Optional. Use open, resolved, completed, or planned. If blank, diagnosis and recall default to open, reminders default to planned, and maintenance, repair, modification, project, or note entries default to completed.

entry_mileage

Optional mileage for that specific record.

notes

Optional context from your spreadsheet, shop receipt, or personal notes.

cost, time_spent_hours, parts

Optional values used for history and spending/reporting views. Use decimal hours, such as 0.75 for 45 minutes.

receipt_reference

Optional receipt number, file name, or external note. Attachments are uploaded separately.

due_date, due_mileage, repeat_months, repeat_miles

Optional reminder fields. These are most useful when entry_type is reminder.

A few import notes

  • Start an import from this guide or from the Garage actions menu.
  • CSV import brings in vehicle details, history entries, reminders, costs, mileage, parts, and notes. Receipt images and other files can be added as attachments after the records are imported.
  • Costs and mileage can include common formatting. Wrenzo cleans extra characters during import.
  • Older templates with time_spent_minutes still work. Wrenzo converts those values into hours during import.
  • Separate multiple parts with semicolons, line breaks, or pipes.
  • Preview warnings are there for review and may not block import. Errors must be fixed before importing.
